The Old Ones Are The Best!
Tickets are now available for 'The Old Ones Are The Best', a brand new comedy showcase on Wednesday 1st April featuring some of Glasgow's funniest over 50s.
Earlier this year, The Social Hub and Age Scotland teamed up with Glasgow International Comedy Festival to find Scotland's funniest over-50s.
Following a huge number of applications to take part, the finalists were selected and became the 'class of 2026'. They've since been put through their paces by the hilarious Viv Gee, perfected their acts, and are ready to perform live at The Social Hub Glasgow.
Viv Gee said:
“Working with these incredible Glaswegians has been an absolute joy. Comedy has no age limit, and who has better stories than people who’ve actually lived a bit?
They’ve learned how to find the funny in their own lives, how to structure a joke, how to handle a microphone and, most importantly, how to trust their own voices. Audiences are in for a treat.”

Andy Burke, 67, from Springburn, is one of the participants taking part in the comedy course, proving it’s never too late to try something new. A retired marketing professional who spent around 25 years working in sales, Andy says humour has always been part of his personality, but it’s only in the past 18 months that he has started performing stand-up comedy seriously.
Andy said: “I’m 67 now and technically a pensioner, but I’ve got no interest in slowing down. I’ve always been a positive person, and humour has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Even in my working days, I realised that if you can make people laugh, it helps you connect with them straight away.
“Trying comedy later in life has been brilliant. After my partner Irene passed away 18 months ago, two wonderful friends, Catherine and Stacey, really helped me through a difficult time. They took me from the depths of despair to a place of acceptance and progress, and it was actually them who encouraged me to give stand-up a go.
“I absolutely loved it. You get such a buzz from making people laugh and seeing people leave with a smile on their face. My advice to anyone older thinking about trying something new is simple: just go for it. You might be more gifted than you think.”
Age Scotland chief executive Katherine Crawford commented:
“We’re proud to be partnering with The Social Hub and Glasgow International Comedy Festival to help bridge the generation gap in comedy.
“Older people have a wealth of stories and life experience to draw on, but they are often underrepresented on comedy stages.
All proceeds from the event on 1st April come to Age Scotland. Please join us, show your support, and have a laugh at the best comedy showcase with our Class of 2026!
