“This virus does not discriminate by age”

With lockdown measures now extended, the levels of anxiety and tension among many will be increasing.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland show, Age Scotland’s Head of Policy and Communications Adam Stachura addressed concerns that a generational divide may have emerged as a result.

He highlighted that, while tensions are occasionally bubbling over on both sides, most people are of the view that looking after their own health and wellbeing and that of more vulnerable people must continue to take priority.

He also praised the ‘incredible’ response from younger people voicing concerns about the impact of coronavirus on those who are older.

More young people than ever are reaching out to Age Scotland, looking for ways to get involved, volunteer and fundraise to help older people who may be feeling isolated and lonely as a result of the current lockdown and shielding measures.
