Parkinson's related dementia and dementia with Lewy Bodies 28th April

In this Coffee Conversation, our discussion will focus on Parkinson’s related dementia and dementia with Lewy Bodies, aiming to increase knowledge and hear what the specific challenges of living with the condition or caring for someone living with Parkinson’s related Dementia can be.

Around 30% of people with Parkinson's have dementia but Parkinson's related dementia is not well known or understood by many health care professionals or services.  A UK wide survey showed that even amongst people with Parkinson's and those closest to them, fewer than half (48%) knew that people with Parkinson's were at increased risk of dementia (Source: Scotland Can’t Wait report 2024).  In this discussion, there will be the chance to hear what support and help is out there for carers and people living with Parkinson’s related dementia, and dementia with Lewy Bodies, and discuss how support can be improved.

We are delighted to be joined by the following speakers:

Dr Gordon Duncan will provide an overview of Parkinson’s related dementia and dementia with Lewy Bodies. There will be the opportunity to send Dr Duncan questions in advance as well as ask questions during the event. We will then hear from two carers about their experiences: both of whom are caring for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.

Anita Jefferies, Area Development Manager for Parkinson’s UK Scotland will outline new developments in the support for people living with Parkinson’s related dementia and their carers.

In our regular Coffee Conversations events, we explore, in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, different topics of relevance to people living with dementia and their carers.
