Funding boost for housing

23 December 2011

Age Scotland has received £110,000 in funding from the Scottish Government to help promote the housing interests of older people in Scotland.
The funding has been awarded from the Housing Voluntary Sector Grant Scheme, which helps a range of housing support projects across Scotland.
Keith Brown, the Housing Minister, said:
"Housing Voluntary Sector grants help national housing and homelessness voluntary organisations develop projects that benefit the people of Scotland. I am delighted that we have been able to maintain funding at 2011-12 levels.
"We want to help communities across Scotland flourish and these grants will fund projects delivered at a local level."
Greg McCracken, policy officer from Age Scotland said: "Age Scotland is very pleased to have been awarded a housing grant by the Scottish Government.
"Over the last two years the Charity has actively contributed towards the development of the Government's Older People's Housing Strategy, and through our Local Housing Panels provided a direct link between the policy development process and Scotland's older people.
"This grant award will ensure that Age Scotland can contribute towards the ongoing development of the Strategy, particularly with regard to Information and Advice and the development of preventative support aimed at enabling older people to remain at home for as long as possible.
"There is a significant  role for the Charity in monitoring the implementation of the Strategy at a local level, checking how councils are interpreting their obligations and engaging with older people, and Age Scotland looks forward to working with all partners to ensure the Scottish Government's ambitions for older people's housing are realised."
