Age Scotland first reaction to spending review
Age Scotland has broadly welcomed the Ministerial Statement by John Swinney MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth, on the Scottish Government's Spending Review and Draft Budget for 2012-13.
Greg McCracken, Age Scotland Policy Officer, said: "Age Scotland feels that older people have come out fairly well from the Government's Spending Review and Draft Budget. It is pleasing that the Government has honoured the commitments in its election manifesto to protect Free Personal and Nursing Care and the Concessionary Bus Pass.
"However, greater support must also be made available to help lift older households out of fuel poverty, and far more investment will be required in our housing stock if we are to genuinely meet our shared ambitions of enabling older people to remain at home for as long as possible.
"Age Scotland looks forward to an ongoing, open and honest dialogue with the Government as we seek to ensure the needs of older people are at the heart of the Budget and wider planning over the coming three years."
The Charity will be undertaking a fuller analysis of the draft budget and spending review over the coming days.Tweet
