Workshop spotlight: how to manage a power cut
At Age Scotland, we offer a range of workshops both in the community and in the workplace that provide information on important issues affecting older people today.
Whether it is supporting age-inclusive workplaces or advice on energy, social security, dementia, veterans, and health and wellbeing, we can help. This month we are spotlighting our resilience workshop.
As we know, Scotland is no stranger to tough, wintry weather but this past winter dealt some harsher blows than normal. Storms like Arwen, Malik and Corrie knocked out power for many thousands and over a longer period than usual, with some left without power for weeks.
Unfortunately, these storms weren't just a run of bad luck. It has been predicted that they will become much more frequent in coming years due to the impact of climate change and, coupled with the current energy crisis, we are headed into an age of increasing power supply disruptions.
Studies have also been shown that older people are going to be the demographic who will suffer the most as a result of the effects of climate change, which is why we have created this workshop on resilience.
Our “Preparing for a power cut” session will make you think about what you would do in the event of a power cut and ensure that you have a plan of action in place to make this potentially stressful event go as smoothly as possible and allow you to weather any storm.
The session will cover:
Making an emergency plan
Emergency survival kit
Emergency friends
Power cut checklist
Preparing your car
Preparing your pets
Priority Services Register
Preparing for a flood
If you or a loved one would benefit from this session, please don’t hesitate to sign up at www.age.scot/energyworkshops. We’d be delighted to welcome you along.
