Blog: Age Scotland’s energy workshops – new dates added
With the Ofgem price cap increase coming into effect on 1 April, rapidly rising energy bills and cost of living are a huge concern for many of us at the moment.
In fact, our recent Help to Turn Up the Heat report revealed that 94% of over 50s are worried about the cost of their energy bills.
That’s why Age Scotland’s free energy workshops are aiming to help support older people during this difficult period.
Funded by SGN and SSEN, the workshops offer timely advice on energy matters and cover a range of topics including energy efficiency, accessing benefits and financial support which could help with energy costs, and looking at future options for heating.
Attendees are able to speak openly, ask questions and share their concerns in a small, supportive group environment and report leaving with increased knowledge of the energy issues affecting older people, as well as increased confidence when it comes to managing their home energy needs.
The workshops also highlight additional support available and how to access this, for example through Home Energy Scotland and Scotland’s Priority Services Register, which helps providers identify customers who need priority support during emergencies such as power cuts or if there’s an interruption to electricity, gas or water supply.
With new dates now available to book throughout March, April and May, Age Scotland is encouraging people to sign up and share these workshops with anyone they feel may benefit.
Participants so far have enjoyed information and advice being mixed with motivation and the opportunity to take follow up action. But don’t just take our word for it, take a look at some feedback received from attendees:
