Listen: Supporting Older Workers - BBC Radio Scotland
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland's "Mornings" show, Age Scotland's Adam Stachura discusses what needs to be done to better support older workers.
There are many reasons why employees may want to work later in life – including financial necessity, sociability of the workplace, sharing and passing on expertise gathered over many years, fear of feeling bored or ‘useless’ in retirement.
While Diversity & Inclusion is high on the agenda of many organisations, age inclusiveness is not often a priority despite the fact that age-diverse teams can be extremely beneficial in terms of experience and skills sharing.
Often older works can feel that their training and development are not invested in and find it difficult to speak to their employer about their future plans.
Age Scotland has helped 200 Scottish organisations and over 6,400 employees become more age-inclusive and better plan for the future.
