Age Scotland Member Group scores top marks
With bad news surfacing in the press with a disturbing regularity, it is refreshing to see an example of where services are provided not to just an acceptable level but to excellence.
Following, an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate in August 2013, Age Scotland member group, Age Concern Eastwood Dementia Project has been awarded the top marks, excellent in all grades
• Quality of Care and Support - 6
• Quality of Environment - 6
• Quality of Staffing - 6
• Quality of Management and Leadership - 6
The Project offers 24 places per day in specifically adapted dementia day care facilities, five days a week for people living in East Renfrewshire. They provide carers services that include alternative therapy clinic, carers' group meetings, monthly coffee mornings, education sessions, etc. The Project has always recognised education as a priority and we welcome volunteers, students from schools, Colleges and Universities for annual placement where they are mentored by Project staff.
The Project is user led by a voluntary Board of Directors, the majority of who are or have been carers. But they are keen to stress that being an independent and non-profit making company has in no way compromised their commitment to deliver a professional high quality service. The Care Inspectorate award and the prestigious Gold Award from Investors in People in October 2012 confirm the commitment to the highest standards for this community.
Markina Murray, Managing Director is delighted by the grades and says it's all thanks to the East Renfrewshire public who have contributed so much over the years through volunteering, fund raising and donations which has, at all times, been used solely to enhance the quality of care provided to the clients and carers of this community. She also thanks the Council for their on-going support and their commitment to ensuring high standards of care for people with dementia.
