Arts festival star says ‘show me your knitting’

Playwright Sylvia Dow is to put her artistic acumen to the ultimate test as judge for the most creative entry to Age Scotland's Big Knit 2013.  

Sylvia, whose first play ‘A beginning, a middle, and an end' was written at the age of 73 and was a highlight of last year's Luminate creative ageing festival, is hoping for thousands of imaginative miniature knitted hats to choose a winner from.  These hats will top innocent smoothie bottles available across Scotland from November, with each sale raising a donation from innocent drinks to Age Scotland.  The knitter of the most creative hat chosen by Sylvia will receive a £50 book token.

Sylvia says: " I'm delighted to lend my support to the continued success of the Big Knit, which is a great way of raising funds to help older people while flexing your creative muscles."

Alison Payne from the Age Scotland fundraising team says: "We're thrilled that Sylvia has agreed to judge our competition as she's a great example of and inspiration for creativity in later life.  But you don't need to be an older person to take part in the Big Knit - whatever your age or knitting ability we'd love to receive a wee woolly hat from you."

A new work by Sylvia Dow, titled Heart of Hawick, will feature in the Luminate programme for 2013.
