Call for older people to get into high tech

Age Scotland's Itea and Biscuits Week is fast approaching (Monday 17th - Sunday 23rd September) and the Charity is calling on local older people who are interested in learning about technology to get involved.
This year there will be local events in Aberdeen, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Helmsdale, Dumfries and Castle Douglas, at which older people can find out about using the Internet, digital cameras, mobile phones and more.
Now in its fifth year, Itea and Biscuits Week is an annual UK-wide campaign managed by Age UK and supported by Age Scotland. With 5.4 million older people UK-wide having never been online, and 95 per cent of older people having never used a smartphone, the Week aims to introduce people in later life to a variety of digital technology.  Technology can be invaluable, from using mobile phones and the Internet to keep in contact with loved ones more easily, to snapping those heart-warming moments in life with a digital camera. 
Age Scotland spokesperson Doug Anthoney said: "Itea and Biscuits Week is a great way for people in later life with little or no experience of technology to get a taste of what the Internet and other digital technology can offer. Even if you've never touched a mobile phone before, or only have a vague idea of what the Internet is, come along and have a go - they really aren't as tricky as they seem!"
"On top of encouraging older people to attend events during the Week, we are calling on anyone who knows how to use technology to become a Digital Champion by passing on their knowledge of mobile phones, the Internet, ipads and anything else to an older friend, family member or neighbour they know."
