Big Knit 2012 gains momentum

13 July 2012

Across Scotland, nimble-fingered knitters are whipping out their wool and needles and creating little woolly hats for Age Scotland and innocent's Big Knit 2012, now in its ninth year.
The Big Knit raises vital funds for local and national projects to help keep older people warmer in winter, and this year, knitters are flexing their creative muscles to come up with new designs for little woolly hats that will adorn innocent smoothie bottles in Sainsbury's stores from 21st November.
For each be-hatted smoothie sold, innocent will give 25p to Age Scotland's Spread the Warmth campaign, helping to fund national and local winter projects. Age Scotland supporters are already hard at work knitting the target of 40,000 hats.
Sheena Hunter, Age Scotland's Director of Income Generation, said: "Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it's really good to know that the money generated by the 40,000 little hats knitted by our supporters goes towards vital local winter projects such as our annual Festive Lunches for lonely people in later life."
