Comment on the organisation of housing adaptations
A consultation on the future organisation of housing adaptations has been launched online by the independent Adaptations Working Group, on which Age Scotland sit.
The Group was established by the Scottish Government in 2011 to consider whether fundamental change to the organisation and funding of services for adaptation of existing housing stock across all tenures was required and to make recommendations to the Government.
Age Scotland's Policy Officer, Greg McCracken, represents the charity on the Group, said:
"The proposals outlined in the consultation highlight where the Adaptations Working Group felt there was a need for greater clarity, focus and information when it came to the delivery of adaptation services for older people and disabled people.
"There are a number of quite radical themes and options set out in the consultation paper, however, this very much reflects the challenges which we face if we are to support people in living in their own home."
The Group have concluded that the delivery of housing adaptations should be based on the needs of the individual, with a range of principles established to underpin the delivery of adaptations, such as the need for a person-centred approach and a focus on preventative support.
Comments are welcome in response to a range of questions and Age Scotland is encouraging those with an interest or understanding of the adaptations process to make sure their voice is heard.
A copy of the consultation is available here.
If you would like to submit comments to the consultation, these should be done by Friday 27 July 2012 to: housingsupport@scotland.gsi.gov.uk. To copy Age Scotland into your response, please email greg.mccracken@agescotland.org.uk
