Equalities Compliance
Like all protected characteristics, age is enshrined in law and employers need to know how to ensure compliance with the UK Equalities Act, 2010.
Our Age Inclusive Matrix (AIM) research has highlighted that organisations want to get Equalities Compliance right but are not always confident in how to go about this in relation to age. There are confusions around language like ‘objectively justified’ and what is meant by ‘exemptions’ and ‘exceptions’ in this context, among others.
Age is also the only fully intersectional characteristic so it’s also important to understand compliance across all of the UK’s protected characteristics.
If you would like to better understand equalities compliance and age, we recommend you look at the ACAS website where they have lots of good support for businesses and employers.
