What is a benefit check
Age Scotland’s information guides provide general advice about benefits and social security, but sometimes you will need to know more detail about a benefit, how it is calculated, or how different benefits work together.
A benefit check from one of our friendly and expert helpline advisers can help to make sure that you are not missing out. They will look at your circumstances and tell you which benefits you could be entitled to, and how much you could get.
The benefits system can be complicated. Some benefits ‘overlap’, meaning claiming one can affect your entitlement to the other. For example, claiming a carer benefit may affect how much the person you care for can claim in disability-related benefits. Getting a benefit check will allow you to find out which combination of benefits will give you the best outcome.
You will need to tell a benefits adviser details about your circumstances, including your income, any savings or capital you have, your living situation and certain expenses. This guide provides detailed information about what you will need to provide, so you can gather this together before speaking to an adviser.
Our benefit checks are free and confidential; we won’t give your information to anyone else.
